Vette: several years ago, I had '63 BJ7 like yours. It also had two sets of lights under the headlamps: a turn signal and a parking light. From what I've seen, this two-light set up is unusual, and was found on the european export model of the BJ7. What's your understanding on this? Thanks, Bob rchakrearthlink.net

rchakr, your probably correct saying this light configuration was for the export market, or perhaps a bj-8 front shroud was used to correct front end damage.

Hi Guys, Bob you are right about the duel lights on the front shroud. My car was originally delivered to Germany. I understand that Germany had beat the U.S. in some safety mandates and the lights were one of those. I believe that is confirmed in Anderson & Moments 'Restoration Guide' or one of the other restoration books I've read.
Anthony, the front shroud on my car is different than a BJ8. The bossed out area for those lights is smaller than the lights on a BJ8. My lights are the same size as on any other BJ7 and are the original Lucas glass lens. the shroud was never changed and it is an original unrestored car, except that it was prepped for ralling some time in the late '70s. Although I don't see any sign that is was ever raced. maybe just boulivard racing? Because it seems so authentic, I am really taking my time taking it apart. I,m taking pictures of everything, wiring harness, connections, fuel system arrangement, etc. I'm not so worried about winning concours, but if it doesn't need changed i don't want to change it.
