Blatant criminals driving the roads of california

Since I was cited by a very friendly Highway Patrol Officer last Friday for not having a front license plate, I decided I should try to help rid the roads of California of other criminals like me. Since I decided to start counting the other criminals out on the road a few days ago with no front license plate my count is up to 151.
The problem is I don't know how to apprehend them with say a Citizens arrest, because they are usually speeding past me going in the other direction. Thats why I can detect that they have no front license plate on their car.

Seems an odd law... non-uniformly enforced. I think it Oregon we're also supposed to have a front plate but it's never enforced on a collector car. On my Sprite, there's no place to actually put one (i.e., no bumper).

Might be a good idea just to write down the plate numbers and give to the trooper's office, then forget it. Trying to enforce regulations yourself on moving vehicles could prove damaging to you and others (but probably feels good trying to do it ...)

There's a road near me with a speed limit of 45. Numb skulls drive it at 60 all the time, even tho' it's through a residential area with lots of kids. They usually pass the slower cars despite it being a no passing area. There are not nearly enough troopers to enforce all the safety laws we have.

I would love to write them down, but you can't write down what isn't there. Maybe I should concentrate on the criminals who are parked, since they are illegal and are using up a parking space that a two plated legal car could use.

Used to be you only needed one in the back. The red light ticket cameras changed all that I suspect.

He he

We're supposed to have them here, I've got em on 2 out of 4 vehicles. The TR shouldn't have to have one and I can't find the vans, it's in the garage somewhere.

NY requires a front plate. And our law enforcement are strict about it. Everyone has the front plate. It's rare to see someone without it. On the other hand, I live less than a half hour from the PA border, and Pennsylvanians do not need front plates. It makes for a fun time...

Stunning. Billy and I actually agree. :D

Sometimes life ain't fair. sometimes our number comes up. pay your bill, move on. Life is short and if that is the worst thing that happened to you last Friday it was probably still a pretty good day.

NY requires a front plate. And our law enforcement are strict about it. Everyone has the front plate. It's rare to see someone without it.

FRAMINGHAM — A Southbridge man’s coast-to-coast crime spree, which ended Tuesday night with his dramatic capture in New York, was a “last hurrah” that he planned to complete by returning to his hometown and murdering the 13-year-old girl he allegedly raped there in August, State Police said Wednesday.

Since cutting off his GPS monitoring bracelet in September and fleeing Massachusetts, Gregory J. Lewis allegedly embarked on a six-week rampage, raping, robbing, and beating six escorts he hired to meet him at motels in five different states, authorities said.

According to Derway and New York State Police officials, a trooper patrolling Route 4 in Fort Edward, a small Hudson River community south of Lake George, spotted a 2004 Jeep Cherokee without its front license plate and pulled the vehicle over. New York requires that both plates be displayed. But as the trooper approached the vehicle, the driver sped off, driving deeper into the town. However, he failed to make a sharp turn on the state highway, and took a dead-end street that sent him into the Hudson, Derway said.
Derway said Lewis pulled out a handgun and waved it at a neighbor who had rushed to help what he thought was a victim of a car crash. Lewis then ran away. Fort Edward officers, New York State Police, and Washington County sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter.

Lewis surrendered after being cornered by a K-9 dog, Nass, and its sheriff’s office handler.

We don't have automated devices in Montana, but my guess is front plates are used for identification for billing of toll road use and speed camera taxing.

Edit: Speaking of blatant criminals.

Actually the citation has no monetary fine attached. you have 30 days to correct the situation and then must find a peace officer etc. to sign off that it has been fixed and then mail in the signed citation to the Highway Patrol or hand deliver it. In my case I only had one plate so I had to order two more. I had to turn in my existing plate. It will take 6 to 8 weeks to get the new plates because they are personalized. Meanwhile I have this temporary sticker that goes on the back windshield of a normal car. Since I don't have a back windshield I am going to just carry it with me and if I am stopped for no license plates I guess I will show it to whomever stops me. Actually if I am stopped before I get my actual plates I may be able to have the cop that stops me sign my citation since the temporary sticker is proof that I have ordered new plates.

I don't feel sorry for you - know the laws, try to adhere to them - OR give a copa reason to pull you over. Same goes for the "front bumper required" law in CA. - Doug

I wasn't asking anybody to feel sorry for me. I was just poking a little fun. Since I was cited 170 cars have driven by me with no front license plate and that is only when I look. If it is the law why isn't it uniformly enforced instead of randomly picking out cars or worse yet picking cars that the officer may be jealous of.
