    Gas Monkey Goldie

We've seen the 1958 Earl's Court gold and mink 100-6 "Goldie" recently listed for $1 million. http://www.collinsbrosjeep.com/ClassicCars.htm I wondered who the owner was. Turns out it's Dennis Collins, a regular on Discovery Channel's "Fast 'n Loud". I refer to Dennis as the "money man" who seems to bankroll some of Richard Rawlings high end projects, like the Ferrari F40 build. Collins has an interesting bio:

"Dennis Collins is an American entrepreneur who has a net worth of $20 million dollars. Dennis Collins is based in Wylie, Texas, where he runs Collins Brothers Jeep. He has owned Collins Brothers Jeep for 29 years. They specialize in Jeep restoration and Jeep conversion projects. They only do the Wrangler series and CJ series Jeeps. He and Richard Rawlings are also Cannonball record holders. In addition to working with Jeep parts and vehicles, he also works with Healeys. He has owned or worked on over 200 of the vehicles, including Goldie, the 100-6 show car. He is currently the owner of the very first Nash-Healey, which was produced in 1950."

That's pretty cool indeed. I didn't realize he was a Healey enthusiast ( one who owns at least two at one time plus parts to build a third , in my opinion) !

    Re: Gas Monkey Goldie

Just saw Gas Monkey episode with his Nash-Healey. Looks like a beautiful car. On the episode he buys Richard's Nash-Healey.
I think he should trade me even for Goldie since she is obviously a Girl's car! I would look better driving her than any of you guys.
.....on a second thought I think I am too conservative to have that much bling on my car.......

    Cheers,
    Irene

Saw that episode, too. Looks like it was the same asking price as Goldie:

I read it finally sold for $500,000.

BTW, Irene, you still interested in an Italia? http://bringatrailer.com/2014/03/31/...-2000-project/

    Rick,
I still like the Italia's but if I even showed my husband that listing he'd would not be joking when he refers to me as crazy!
That said I hope they let it go for a price that someone will restore it as it should be. I do know a guy that turned it down years ago for $5000. Heck at the rate it's going you could buy it, hold it for a few years with storage as the only cost and make a killing.

    I am still hunting a Healey......preferably a BN2.....

Goldie's coming to auction again. Estimated between $350,000 and $550,000.

I believe his brother was once a member of the North Texas Austin Healey Club a long time ago.

I have been told that there is only one picture of DM with a lady posing with the car.

Unusual car with a great history but hard to imagine getting $350K for it. It's just too weird looking. Maybe Fast and Loud could amp it up with air ride, 19" mag wheels and a LS7 big block!

Funny, I did an article on celebrity Healeys for the Healey Marque. Trump owned at least one, perhaps two, Healeys while he was in college and his previous wife, Ivana, owned one while she was living in Montreal before they were married. In the article I, too, suggested Goldie would be something he might be interested in

Yeh, I think that's about the only practical use for that car. You certainly wouldn't park in too many public places. and the Bling is pretty outrageous. I saw it once when it was down at Healey Surgeons. It's way too much for my taste and I believe almost anyone who has owned it in recent years has lost money on it including Dennis Collins.
Thanks for the post Rick. It's always fun to keep up with the weird and famous.
    About TV Shows-
"...you really can't restore a car in 10 days. I don't want to watch a race where people have to restore it in a week. It's not going to drive, and those cars never work. In real life, it takes years to get it right. " Jay Leno.

Don't give them any ideas! Although that seems to be SOP for all the 'customs' shops; that way you have a 'unique' car that is just like all the other customs (Healeys came 'slammed' from the factory). Oh, and 19" wheels are for pikers; the fad now is 24" 'dubs' or bigger, with some rubber painted on the rims for tires.

I do kinda wish my dad had bought the Nash-Healey offered to him by the same man that sold him a 100M, but it was the later (Pininfarina) body style with the headlights in the grill, and Dad didn't like it. We could have thrown a tarp over it and sat on it for 20 years and made a nice profit.
