A few Q's for the SP250 owners

I am in the process of a body off restoration and have all body bolts off, trunk stripped andcockpit completely stripped and am working on the engine compartment.

1. I need to get the steering column out and and steering wheel off. I understand to do that you need to remove the control head. I have the nut and olive off the front of the steering box and the workshop manual says that the control head should just pull out....but I can not seem to get it out. Any tricks, or am I missing something?

2. A few of the body/frame bolts had to be cut off and all the rubber (neoprene) needs to be replaced. Any other car model use the same things (that I can get locally)? The bolts look like mini lug bolts (tapered) and the rubber fits into cup type washers which the bolts also fit properly into.

3. Any local (USA) parts suppliers, or am I going to England for all the bits and pieces needed? I am a stickler for originality.

Thanks,
Josh

Josh- if this is Joe's former car, he might be able to help with some issues. If the steering wheel is original, removing set screws just below the horn/signal ring allows the tube to be pulled out. Be sure to disconnect horn/turn signal wires. These are the same setup, I believe, as the TR3. I expect you will need to contact David Manners, or one of the other GB suppliers, to get the little bits and pieces. Always worth a phone call to John Carey, although he has sold a good bit of his SP stock. Joe is jdockman "at" comcast.net. Carey is daimlerusa"at"yahoo.com. Don't have his phone # at hand right now. He usually has items on eBay and the ads have his #. eBay name is daimlerusa.
I did not stay original with my resto; have had the car since '69 and after putting more than 100k on it was ready for upgrades. Many, many upgrades.
Glad to keep this going here on the forum, or if you want to email me with ??'s use dale.wright "at" verizon.net.
