I have been putting some pics together, and there are many to get to where I am now. Here is where I started working on the tub. I did a few small weld repairs to the tub before taking it off the chassis. I'll be adding more pics soon. Thanks Justin!

I wish Moss would make patch panels for the outer corners of the rear valance. It seems to be the norm with the 6's. I formed one and welded it together...

Thanks so much ! I have a few more pics to get to the current state of things. Here's the frame stripped and flipped over...

Here is the old repair the DPO did with the body on. The original T Shirt had been cut off and the frame had these 1/8" plates welded right over rust in the typical spots our frames suffer. Then, this square was welded on to take the place of the T Shirt. The trailing arm mounts had been replaced and were plenty strong, but I chose to cut all of this previous repair off, cut out the rust under the old patches, get rid of the mounts, and use new mounts from Moss. One side at a time...

I fabbed a patch and welded it in. I have been welding in the aerospace industry for many years and have this to say to anyone learning, or wanting to learn to weld; It does not matter what your welds look like because it gets ground off anyway. Just make sure you have penetration. I skip all around with SHORT welds to keep the distortion down. The inner edge of the patch is plug welded.

The new trailing arm mounts come in 2 pieces, so you have to weld the C shaped cover on. I used a pneumatic flanger/hole punch to make the holes to plug weld.

532208_112690702196896_100003679008519_70380_1736563830_n.jpg

I used a TIG welder to plug weld it together. TIG welding means no grinding the welds when you are done. The welds are very clean and you can make them flush while welding.
295121_112694392196527_100003679008519_70383_1743352056_n.jpg

It took a while to fit the mount to the frame. All the weld from the previous repair, as well as the small bits and pieces from the factory mounts that were still there had to be ground off with a cut off wheel using a die grinder, and a body grinder.
531123_112702018862431_100003679008519_70421_2019949297_n.jpg

This is where I presently am. The mount is in place against the jig I made to make sure it is in the right position before final welding.

Thank you for the kind words, but a pro I am not. Just a backyard hobbiest that can't stand things hacked. One thing I have learned as I got older, is that I would rather take a little more time, and do it right. And even then, I am usually not satisfied and end up selling it!

For protecting the insides after the welding is done, eastwood has a nice spray internal frame coating that I used with my frame, and it seems quite nice. Your welding looks awesome. My welding when I did my frame was the first time i've welded anything outside of a forge. Forge welding and electric welding are very very different >_<

Thankfully, as you said, once you grind it down flat, you cant tell how ugly the beads were =)

Is it similar to waxoyl ? Once my frame is blasted and POR-15ed, I planned on using waxoyl for the entire frame. I drilled the trailing arm mounts so I could get in all those crannies too. What was the foam you spoke about in your post that everyone was so horrified about?

This is the product that I was talking about first, an internal spray paint.

The foam that everyone was horrified about is as listed on the ratco page. I actually havent used it yet. I purchased the foam this last fall online from the place i found it the least expensive and the foam i got arrived with a sticker on it, "expires september 2011" and i didnt get it till october, and then the company i bought it from wouldnt take it back or refund, so ... yeah not happy, and wont buy stuff like that online again. by the time i finished trying to fight with them for a return / money back it got too cold to even try to use the stuff i had. I'll break a can out and test it to see if it's still good past expiration and if so, may use it still.

Justin,
How many cans of the Eastwood Internal Frame coating did it take to do your frame?
