I just had to have one before I got to old to ride. Haven't been on a bike in 40 years. Picture taken at my church parking lot. Building further in background is a fire station, those guys know first aid.

Hi Doug. Mine is a 78 also. Synced the carbs today. It's great fun to drive. Checking into a rider safety class, kinda would like to keep myself in one piece. Definite learning curve to riding and caring for one of these things.

Very nice, Mark. Do follow up on the rider safety course. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation ones are good. Good Luck and Have Fun.

Nice bike, Mark.

Things have changed since you last rode a bike. Smart riders wear good protective gear every time they get on the bike. Be smart, get good gear and WEAR it: full-face (approved) helmet; good protective gear: armor pants; armor jacket, armor gloves, good boots.

And, please do yourself and your family a favor and take the motorcycle safety course.

REMEBER AGATT: All the Gear, All The Time. Don't leave your driveway without it. :yesnod:

Enjoy the ride!

That's what I do. Bought a bright yellow armored jacket with adjustable air vents and zip out lining. The vents work very well letting in air and letting it exhaust at the back, it is only gets warm when you stop. I wear good quality gloves and heavy 8" boots as I have learned from a friends accident that ankles are difficult to reconstruct. Almost learned the hard way the other day about long boot laces. I have a good Bell full face helmet. The rider safety courses are very popular, no vacancies till August. Lots of O'doul's amber in the fridge.

Very sobering afternoon. I spent several hours riding around on the neighborhood streets and practicing starts and stops along with restarting the bike (kick starter) at the church parking lot. Since I am not ready for busy traffic I went home to get the car to go to the grocery store. A major intersection was blocked off with at least four police cars and an accident investigation van. In the middle of the intersection was a motorcycle on its side, absolutely destroyed. Watched the late news tonight. The rider was killed, a helmet was present at the scene but the police think it was strapped to the bike, he was not wearing it. Preliminary investigation has surmised a car made a left turn in front of the bike, the bike may have been speeding.

Left turners into our path -- that's the biggest danger in a lot of places. I know that I've become a much more aware driver since I started riding. It's amazing how much more aware I am now of what is going on around me.

Beautiful bike. My first bike was a 50's Norton 500. Second was a 1961 BSA 650 modified (what a torque monster).
I've been riding since I was 16 (I'm now 65). I have survived so far by trying to anticipate any stupid thing anyone can do. I also limit my exposure by taking short rides infrequently -- just enough to get my need for speed satisfied. I have a full set of protective gear and a Snell approved full face helmet.

I have a 1973 Yamaha TX500 since new -- it now has 11,000 miles on it. Nothing has ever gone wrong with it. Just oil changes, one set of new tires, and a bunch of batteries. However, I am very appreciative of Brit bikes.
