A story that helped me buy a hardtop for my car

I was young. Like first grade. Our teacher was giving out
door prizes to our classroom for something or other.
She had a tray in her hand upon which the gifts set.

She said: Gather around, class, because we are all going to
get to pick our gifts now.

We all huddled around her in excitement. She lowered the
tray and leaning down said: "Okay, each of you may pick
any toy you want."

As she did so, she placed the tray right in front of me.
There, blatantly outstanding was a beautiful, shiny, die
cast red truck. It stood out from the rest of the small plastic doo dads and gizmos as obviously the finest toy
on the tray....by far!

It was right there in front of me! It was as if she was
placing it there for me to grab first; but, I choked. I
hesitated, because I just wasn't sure I would feel so good
grabbing the finest toy on the tray. Something about it
just didn't seem fair.

Just then, a kid standing in the circle about three kids back,
screamed: "I want the truck," and he leaped over our heads
and shoulders and snatched it off the tray.

I ended up with a plastic army guy about 3/16 tall.

Later my teacher said she liked me and had placed the toy
tray in front of me hoping that I'd be the one to get the
truck.

She said: "You didn't get the truck, but hopefully you learned a valuable lesson that when something nice is placed
before you and offered up for you to take, you have to reach
out and grab it, because if you don't, somebody else sure
will."

My experience there and the lesson helped me to get in my
truck; grab some cash, drive to the location of the seller
where I negotiated the purchase of my new hardtop in the
thread entitled: Nice hard top.

Also, thanks for the heads up and the post.....
