Which Distributor

Im confused as to which distributer to use. I currently have one from a 1979 BGT, but according to peter burgess (how to power tune MGB 4 cylinder engines) its advances curves are wrong and no good. I don't wish to switch over to the chrome bumper dizzy as it would mean me changing my carbs too.

I have seen the 43D dizzy but as this is a car that is going to be used on the road wouldnt this make it run very lumpy.

Id like to try and avoid electronic ignition if possible so what are my remaining options?

My MG is 79, and I will be using the carbs off the 79 engine (HIF's I think?). I could be getting a weber 45 in distant future but for now im hoping I can use the HIF's and not need to buy older carbs which have the vacuum take off mine dont.

The engine is from around 71-74 (big valve head), its 1950cc, piper 270 cam stage 2 head, lightened flywheel etc etc.

Contact Jeff at https://www.advanceddistributors.com/ He will rebuild and recurve the distributor for your engines specs. He does fantastic work and tends to have a very fast turn around.

It's not an issue to swap distributors around and an early distributor will work as well as a later one but you will want to have it recurved to match your engine. Carbs will not have to be changed to use a differnt dizzy.

Im no expert but the Burgess book mentions the chrome bumper dizzy taking a vacuum advance off the carbs instead of the carb manifold, this being one of the problems with my dizzy.

Thanks for the link but im in the UK, I will try and find a similar service this side of the pond though. Do you have a rough idea of how much he would charge?

Edit: Just took a look round the site, would I just need a "rebuild" or as this engine is quite different to standard would the work cost more?
