Hi all,

Can you tell me which are the more active vintage racing groups in Northern Calif.?

Also, I'm a professional photographer and have been considering combining my interests in old cars and taking pictures. Do you think there a market among vintage racers and fans for high quality photography at events?

TIA!

Check out the Websites for Sears Point (or whatever
they call it this week),Laguna Seca,& Thunderhill.
They should give you an idea of the races they run.

Allan....... CSRG and HMSA. They both have websites I believe. CSRG has about 5-6 races a year.

In So Cal our club is VARA...website vararacing.com

Yes.....BUT....it is pretty well saturated and established. Any one can take pictures but they are limited in sales at a lot of tracks who take a cut of the photogs sales. There are some tracks that photographers need to be permitted. Some clubs also limit sales....we have two excellent regular photogs down here who attend all our races and events and work closely with our club.

Hi Doug & Jerry,

Thanks for all the info. I've been checking out those two groups and the tracks. I was aware of these three tracks, wondered if there might be some others I was missing.

Mazda/Laguna-Seca website seems to be offline right now and Infineon/Sears Point shows precious little info about upcoming events. Thunderhill would be a bit of a trek, but if it seemed worthwhile, I think we'd make the trip.

We are actually a team of two photographers who currently shoot photos at somewhat similar events (horse shows, actually) and have been looking into other types of events where we might expand, sort of applying the same business model.

We only work events with full permission, in an official capacity and with exclusivity and would probably only do so at vintage race events if something similar could be worked out with the organizers and tracks.

It's hard work shooting the events we do, but lots of fun. The staff/volunteers are always great to work with and the participants are very excited to be able to get high quality photos at very reasonable prices, either online after the fact or sometimes almost immediately onsite (this latter is somewhat limited to the larger events, due to the costs setting up to print onsite).

Again, thanks! I'll be getting in touch with the organizations and tracks to see if there is some interest in our services. Perhaps we'll see you there!

P.S. If you have some great photographers providing services, I'm glad to hear it. Be sure to patronize them! Few if any photographers will ever get rich doing this, but most of us are happy to be doing something fun and meeting lots of good people along the way.
