haven't had too much time lately to post but spent some time this weekend rebuilding brake calipers. found some weird wear on the edges of the pistons. on both pistons, one half of the cup lip was worn back about 1/16 of an inch or more. it doesn't make sense for it to wear that way but the pistons have to be replaced. so it's another cost ... anyway, i am waiting on a new/used oven thermostat for my junk (emphasis on junk) powdercoat oven. it turns out that the oven thermostat was not working at all and if you have ever had that problem, your oven becomes a blast furance of sorts. anyway, i see jack is doing well and posting, i hope to have my website up soon. i was going to publish it last night, but it didn't update properly ... if only things always went as planned! wish it could /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif do this instead sometimes! more to come!

The caliper pistons are SUPPOSED to have a notch in them.
I forget just where that notch points, I seem to recall towards the bleeder but I might be wrong.

this is the lip of the cup where it makes contact to the brake pad (or brake anti-squeal pad). about halfway around the circumference of the cup, the lip is lower than the other half. this is normal?

if the "notch" is suppose to be there, what is it doing? since the edge makes contact with the pad, why would you notch the piston? this is too strange

checked the manual and sure enough there are notches on the pistons ... great catch by the forum. at least i don't have to replace them. i wonder how many drivers have these babies out of position. anyway, thanks to all on the forum that corrected me on this.
