Does anyone know what the purpose of the hole is on the outside of the front angle of the frame? It’s close to the top front corner a couple of inches from the top.
Also I’m not a purist so I’m trying to decide which knob to use to secure the side screens.
The 62 should use the regular wing nut type last pic (which are fairly ugly IMO) I think the thread is 5/16th UNF.
Im thinking of an alternate but need to know if the thread size is the same on either .
The four star knob (as used on Longbridge cars I think).
The knurled knob for the folding windshield.
The single wing type.
See pics.
Suggestions anyone?

Re: Side screens .

Not sure if this is the hole you're referring to, but it's only about an inch below the top. On the outside it had no purpose but on the inside edge, it holds the little rubber bumper that is supposed to keep the side curtains from rattling. You can see the bumper on the inside shot. I happen to like the double wing nuts that hold the curtains on. They have a real smooth and substantial feeling to them. That sound weird now that I say it. Sorry the photos posted upside down.

Re: Side screens .

Tks Rob .
that makes sense it would be for a little rubber bumper .
Im just not a fan of the standard wing nut and seeing as I will rarely use the side screens I want whatever is on the stud while the side screens are not in use to look appealing .

The small hole on the outside of the side curtain frame is for a small round head Phillips sheet metal screw to hold the rubber bumper in place.

Since I have a Longbridge car, I'm partial to their fixing nuts:
Inside-mounted.jpg

One advantage of them is they are smaller than the later wing nuts. The threads on both are 5/16, with the rear one being coarse and the front being fine.

I'm also partial to the original Longbridge brackets.

That looks way better than the regular BT7 wing nuts .
I see your brackets are chromed , is that how they were on Longbridge cars .
the brackets on my side screens look the same but no chrome plating .

Mine had poor chrome on them when I bought the car. They've been re-chromed. The photos in the Restoration Guide are not really very good, but they look chromed, so I would say they should be chromed.

The later rear bracket is just a simple plate, bent to go around the aluminum trim, and I've never seen them chromed.

Since you are not into concours originality, it probably wouldn't matter, but the Head-4-Healeys star nuts look like a DIN6335 palm grip. Attached is a comparison of an original star nut (top) to a stainless DIN6335. The threaded hole in the DIN6335 has not been drilled and tapped yet.

The DIN6335 would work for my liking and I would blind drill and tap them instead of all the way through .

You would have to check if you can get the side screen tight enough without threading all the way through.
That’s an easy fix , just shorten the bracket threaded section to suit .

or use a spacer. using a spacer may allow you to adjust the side screen in or out a little for better fit.

once you know, you can cut if that works better.
