Things you didn't know about your car

We've owned our Honda Accord V6 since 2002 and I just discovered something this weekend - the power windows will work with the key off - until you open the door. I never knew that. Apparently its somewhere in the manual. Ever read your manual? Did you ever discover something about your car that you didn't know?

many moons ago we had a Mazda 626 one night someone broke into it (doors were unlocked) nothing of consequence was taken (weirdly they left ALL my cassettes) but they opened a little storage bin that we had no idea existed until then.

I got a 1973 Jeep CJ 5 only to find out my Ins. would not cover Jeeps even with the stock tires and full cage roll bar. They went so far to cancel me and all my cars. I have been with AAA ever since, there loss. Madflyer

When we get a new car (new to us),I always try & read the
owner's manual.
Now,when we rent a car,I HAVE to read the manual, just to be
able to do simple stuff.A year ago,we rented a new Corolla.I couldn't
figure out how to use the cruise control without reading it.

Last year I rented a Mini and it took me 45 minutes in the parking lot to pair my phone (an employee took pity on me) and 1 1/2 hours to learn how to change the channel on the radio - and everything was rap!

Not knowing how to start the car.

My sister’s story (a wonderful person, but not into cars): Traveling alone with two small kids (ages 3 and a few months, give or take). Survives the flight, gets luggage, takes shuttle to rental car place, gets keys to a Prius. Gets the car seats installed, kids buckled, stroller and luggage in the trunk, puts the key in, and presses “start”. Nothing happens...

She ended up calling her husband, who suggested, “try stepping on the gas pedal”. Lo and behold, the car moved!

Now we all should be familiar with the "Start / Stop" button on the dash. Both functions require foot on brake pedal. Discovered my Audi S4 has secret pull out draws under both front seats. They're large enough to hold things that you want to conceal. :angel2:

In a reverse scenario, my pal and former partner took his '96 Ford van to a tire shop to be re-shod, a kid sent to drive it into the shop had no idea how to start it with a keyed ignition. He was looking for a button! Pal had to explain to the kid he had to turn the key.

That's funny. I remember back in the 90s taking my pickup to a fancy car wash and the kid working there had to come ask me how to start it because it has a starter button, so I went out and started it. About the time I was sitting back down in the waiting area the kid came to me again and asked me to drive it around for him because no one there could figure out how to drive it, it's a 3 on the tree.
