My wife and I are currently vacationing near the Mexican town of Mahahaul and our hosts house is next door to Alex de Tomaso, son of the race car driver and builder of the cars that bear his name. We met him a couple of years ago when we were here and he’s a big fly fisherman in Mexico and Argentina where they are originally from. His dad built him an 800 hp Pantera at the factory back in the day and I’ll see if I can get some pictures from him tonight. I didn’t realize that they once owned Vespa and Innocenti along with others. Interesting guy.

edit: Alex and I got to spend a couple of hours together during the Super Bowl and it was a fun time. He raced for several years and crewed for Williams back in the day and now spends most of his time fishing. His favorite driver of all time is Mario Andretti because of his skill driving different types of cars and his favorite F1 driver is Senna. He ran a team that competed against Senna and said he was the most skilled and smartest driver he’s ever known. He still has a collection of over 100 cars, sports, F1s, etc. and loves to drive and keeps in touch with his racing friends who are living. I was surprised to learn that he knew Fangio so well because of his fathers business. I also learned that Mangusta means mongoose and was named that because of Carrol Shelby and the Cobra...his dad and Shelby were buying the same engines from Ford and there was lots of competition to say the least! His favorite car guy is Lee Iococca...he was a family friend who stayed with them often. Neat stuff!

Wow, Rut, you are keeping some pretty interesting company! My personal opinion of Andretti was that he was good at breaking cars....other than that he was darn quick.
