TR2/3/3A Will cable ties hold rear axle rubber buffer securely?

I am planning to replace the rear axle rubber buffers (p/n 115456) on my TR3 with the ones that are split to allow them to fit around the axle. I am thinking of using long cable ties around each side the of the rubber buffer, rather than the stock wire method. Has anyone tried using cable ties, and will they securely hold the buffer in place? Thanks!

I used a combination of wire ties and a cable ties. I did have a bit of trouble getting the wire ties wound up to my satisfaction and wished I had bought several spares.
My concern with cable ties is will they become brittle and disintegrate.

Yup, I've used tie wraps. Got the black UV-resistant ones, they seem to have held up well. They do get hard, but I've never seen one break.

Make sure you get them as tight as possible though; I have had trouble with them slipping off. Apparently, hard cornering can put some side force on the rubber stops.

I used wire tightened with my twirly safety wire pliers, but Harbor Freight sells stainless steel zip ties that might work well.

Twisting wire is all in the first set up and is easier on round surfaces. Practice on a pole about the size of the axle. Start by getting the wirer tails about 2 inches longer than needed, or 4 inches bigger than the pipe. Make the first twist by hand and have both tails at about 45 degrees to each other with a nice clean symmetrical fold/ twist in the center. Then grab the tails down low right at the top of the first twist with some piles, and pull back some as you twist. Maybe twist around 4 times and trim.

IMHO the wire is best because it sinks down in the rubber creating a small grove and will stay in the grove. Masonry supply stores sell special pliers and wirer with small loops on the end and you pull back on the special pliers and that does a perfect twist. They should have wire to fit an axle because the diameter is small.

I’ve used stainless ties from Band-it on a few cars now and really like them. Was lucky to find a used kit so cost was still cheap.
