TR2/3/3A Tie member[front apron support tube]

I started measuring for a lifting frame to lift the front half of the tub off the chassis. I removed the front apron, then removed the tie member. The tie member is a 1 inch square tube that supports the front apron. The one i removed is made of 1/16" wall aluminum tubing bowed to match the apron. The tube appears to be well made but seemed strange to be made of aluminum. My question , is this an original part or should it be a steel tube?

Thank you very much for the information. Great to be able to define an original part. This car has had so much patching and bad repairs. This is great to have a defined inner wing dimension. My car was loosely bolted together when i got it and have decided to take everything off the chassis, check the frame and do the repairs to it. I have the Bentley manual with the chassis drawing and how to check the chassis. Once the chassis is straight and any repairs are made I can start to build from the ground up.

on the bottom side of the tie member there are 4 holes. there was nothing attached to these holes. Are these holes supposed to have something attached or maybe someone had something there in the past and I need to weld them up.

Yes the bonnet latch—A spring incased in a about 5 x4 inch frame with a 3 inch peg sticking out to keep pressure on the hood when the hood is Dzused down onto the inner fenders.

Thank you for the picture, makes perfect sense . I have gone thru the bags of parts and located the spring assembly and the 2 brackets that attach to the bottom of the tie member. Working on the car would be much easier if I had taken it apart but I have bags of parts that are not labeled and have no idea where they go so there will be more questions. I really appreciate all the help so far. Have a great weekend.

Hello Frank

I had that part in one of my boxes for sometime before I was sure it belonged with the TR3A.

The luckiest part I got was the Steering column center tube. When we were loading the car someone asked if that was part of the car. I had no idea but said put it on the truck. That is one of the near non existent parts.
