TR2/3/3A installing the wiring harness

I am installing the wiring harness and it looks like to me the grommets are too stiff to go around the cloth coating and slid into place without doing some damage to the cloth. I am trying to think of a way to soften the grommet up some or perhaps try a different vender for them. Has anyone dealt with this? Maybe some silicone rubbed into the grommet?

Not sure which grommet you refer to... but the tight fit for me was the big one in the firewall that a large amount of the harness passes through. What I did there was fit the grommet to the hole then make a tube out of a sheet of plastic cut from a gallon milk bottle. Inserted into the grommet, it worked like a funnel for the harness to slide thru the tight opening without dragging on the grommet. Once the harness was in position the plastic just pulls out.

The plastic is pretty smooth and slick by nature - I didn't want to use any lube on the cloth-wrapped harness.

Saturating the grommet with silicone spray will help soften it too.

That is one Geo- plus you always have the resourceful clever stuff. This makes me think about your caliper rebuild suggestion with the air pushing the rubber out to be fit in the grove. Many thanks.

Well I got the harness through the firewall with a couple of “Take the wheel Jesus” this is not doable and with Geo's help. i used 2 funnels from the Dollar Store. Anyways, I posted a couple pictures I had of the early and late wiring along with this early project and the stiff grommets. The early picture has me thinking I should push the wiring back some and have a better look at how the wiring goes behind the battery. There is a 3 way separation where one goes to the back and the other to the front and the other for the dash and has to be correct to fit the glove box. For now I am going to let things float a little until I can dry fit a glove box and choke cable.

I do wish Basil would fix the mobile interface, so I could see photos on my phone!
