Most accurate pendulum clock

I ran across this on another forum I frequent and thought it interesting. John Harrison, the man who famously invented the marine chronometer for the purpose of determining longitude at sea, had the plans for this clock in a book he published a couple of years before his death. Martin Burgess, a British clockmaker, decided to build the clock and back in April Guinness certified it as "most accurate mechanical clock with a pendulum swinging in free air."

Thanks, Walt! It's likely I'd have missed that. Harrison was one of those people who changed the world but has largely gone unknown. Truly a shame. To see "Clock B" vindicate his genius is terrific.

I'm a real fan of mechanical timepieces, a Waltham Valjoux 7733 and an Omega Seamaster are the two chrono's I have and still wear on occasion. Been fascinated by the mechanisms from childhood.

Doc, I remember your watches from a thread a few years back. I'm still collecting, selling, and tinkering with watches, in fact, the forum I ran across this on is the Omega Forums.

Bas, yes it is. Micheal Gambon is fantastic as Harrison.

I was once a British Merchant Navy deck officer, and navigation was part of my job. I first learned sun sights and Longitude by Chronometer many, many years ago. It was state of the art, no GPS or other positioning systems back then. Reading about Harrison made me thankful such a man had lived.

My father had an Atmos clock. Powered by changes in humidity and air pressure? I think my brother wound up with it.

Atmos clocks are fascinating, I'd love to get my hands on one someday.
