Spitfire Checking/Changing Fluids

I am really new to this. Because my Spitfire hasn't been run in about 25 years, I'm checking all the fluid. I know where and how to check the differential, the gear box, and the cluth, as well as the oil. Am I missing anything else? As well, I'd love to lube anything that needs lubing. What needs lubing?

More knowledgable folks than I will help, but ...

Do you have an owner's manual for the Spit?

If not, what year is it? We can probably point you to a manual.

A copy of the factory manual available at any of the British parts suppliers will show you where all the grease fittings are on the chassis. Always a good idea to push out the old grease with some fresh stuff. At a minimum, look for grease zerks on all suspension bushing points, the trunion, possibly drive shaft U-joits, and maybe even the water pump.
Other than what you mentioned, I would flush the brake fluid. Dot 3/4 is hydroscopic, meaning it absorbs moisture out of the air. We measure all the cars that come in and recommend flushing the fluid when moisture gets above 4%. I know you're changing a rear brake pipe, so a full flush should be in order anyway.

Definitely plan on flushing the brakes. If you haven't touched the brakes in 25 years you should expect that all of the cylinders will need to be replaced or rebuilt and all the lines flushed. DOT-4 can create a real mess when left sitting in aluminum cylinders for years.

In addition to all the grease fittings, you will need to refill the front suspension trunnions. They were originally supposed to be filled with oil but I think most people now fill them with grease.

I'm going to find an owner's manual today, thanks. As far as flushing the brake line -- that's something I never considered, but great advice. It's on my to-do list now. And I found that brake line. All told, it's been a successful day! Thanks for your help!
