The correct tool does make it easier [fill steering rack]

Finishing up some work on my Morris Minor (same rack as a Spridget) and I decided to hunt down a correct tool to use to fill the rack with oil through the zerk fitting. I've tried a few workarounds over the years, but nothing ever worked all that well. After some Googling I found this:

Didn't find any other options and I was on a bit of a time crunch, so went ahead and bought it. And ya know what, it did exactly what it said on the tin. Filled the little gun with oil and it pumped it right into the rack. No mess, muss, fuss, or bother.

It's not cheap for what is essentially a once-a-year use tool, but I do have to admit that it worked perfectly for the job. Glad to have it in the toolbox.

Good find! I’ve been using corn head grease since it’s flowable and can be used in a regular grease gun, but this should be a better option.

Any regular grease gun will pump 90wt or 140wt oil. Just unscrew the plunger part and keep the tube upright and they work great. I have an old gun that I keep without a plunger just for the steering rack.

Drew, that gun will work for the other grease zerks on your car as well and there are plenty of them. I grease the front suspention at every opportunity since it is expensive to repair and not long lived.

I tried that method in the past, but just managed to make a mess. Likely my fault somewhere in the process. This one made it a no brainer, always a good call for me. :grin:
