I was going to install the 3 exhaust manifold studs (to down-tubes) after coating it. I decided to chase the threads with a grade five bolt
and I used anti-seize to lube them. This would ensure that I would not ruin them or break the ear off.
I was able to do all three with not much resistance. One was harder than the others. I was going to run the studs down and leave a few exposed threads.
I started off with the one that was tight. All goes well until I am doing the easiest one and guess what? It sheared off below the surface.
I was using a quarter drive and was just snugging it up.
I am not sure you could weld anything and back the remainder of the stud out. So I am left with trying to use my bolt extractor. I have had the kit for 20 plus years and have never had any success. It worked this time after a lot of work. Maybe I did it right for the first time.
