It should be sprung over that way. I'm going from memory... I use the datsun gearboxes.

I've experienced the same, Rick, in my BE. Wasn't a problem till I shortened the shift lever. Now I have to keep it in mind while driving that car that that happen's and give it a good hard push to the right when I go to third.

I've had the same issue. I'm glad to hear that I'm not alone. I figured that I just have to be mindful of my shifting.

Ouch, Gerard  I suspect part of the problem is swapping cars between the bugeye and the nasty boy. While the bugeye has a stock ribcase, the nasty boy has an aftermarket Steeda shifter with a strong spring towards the 3-4 gate.

Am I right thinking the peg #145 below is responsible for locating the shifter in the 3-4 gate?

Maybe a spring added to the end of the peg would kick the shifter over a bit?

I believe that the pin Moss #145 is to align the lever. It fits into the slot on the shift lever.
There are no springs in the trans except for the Parts (#108/9/10) that keeps tension on the shift lever.
If everything is tight the lever does sort of sit in the 3/4 position but I don't see anything positive to hold it.
In one of my trans I frequently touched 1st if not paying attention when going to 3rd. However, in my present box I do not have the issue. Not sure why

I believe what contributes to the problem is how well the various detents work. Springs that have lost their tension and if the notches have developed a ramp instead of being crisp, especially in the 1st/2nd synchrohub will contribute to overtravel and catching the gear.
