Mounting wipers

With some life issue to deal with I haven't touched my BJ7 in months. Other than to drive it naked (no body panels) through the streets. That's a lot of fun. My son is visiting for a while and he's got things moving. We're mounting the wiper assembly. With my CRS disease I can' recall if there are mounts on the wheel box wipers. Is it just the nut from the outside or are there mounts under the dash, other than the motor mount?

Also, how do I make sure that the wiper arms are lined up right?

Is there anything else that we should be thinking about?

Ok, I found these threads. The wheel boxes hang free until the shroud is installed. Then the escutcheon nut holds them firm.

Dale - If you've overhauled or had your wiper motor apart, make sure it parks in the right place before installation. Rotating the top cover governs this. I found this out the hard way after I had my wipers overhauled and the guy who did it assembled them with park over to the left.

Also, you might want to take a look at the brushes, which are held in an assembly beneath the motor end cap. Moss sells the brush assembly.

There are youtube videos showing how to service the motor. Not difficult if you're careful.

Do you know of a lucas parts source? There's a rubber cup on the wheel. See attached. I'm guessing that keeps water out.

Sorry, no. Moss doesn't show a part there, either.

We pulled the wiper motor and gearbox apart. Great shape which was a surprise based on the greasy dirty mess the outside was. Cleaned, painted, lubed and put it back to together. Bench tested and the motor wouldn't budge. Part of the problem with my BJ7 transition car is that it uses some newer and some older parts. The wiper is the old style. I re read the Bentley manual over and over. Couldn't see why it would be pulling 10.5amps. Range should be in the 3amp range. Then I notice that it has adjustable bushings. What the heck is that? I now know that they are a ball of sorts that self align the shaft and must be clean and lubed. Problem solved.

It was lot of work for an ornamental rig (Don't plan to use wipers) that's out of sight!

yeah, I put a two speed wiper motor in my bn6 and have never used the wipers! typical driving habits I suppose! one day it will happen because I drive the car very often!

All Healey wipers have two speeds: Off and Slow

"Off and Slow" You can say that again. I put power to it on the bench with only the rack. All freshly cleaned and greased. It moved Ok but slow is the word. I thought it interesting that the plastic gear is in such good shape. There isn't enough power to cause any wear!
