TR6 tight suspension

When I get together with other TR6 owners, I grab the bumpers and push down and up. Other 6's move up and down about at least 2 inches. Not mine. I have about 1/2 inch of suspension travel, front and rear, if that. Rides like an old Morgan. Dead springs? What else could it be?

My first thought is that someone has "upgraded" the springs. Lots of folks object to the relatively soft stock ride of a TR6, and install stiffer "competition" springs.

Could be binding pivots or a very unusual failure of the shocks, but I would look at springs first. Also check the bump and rebound stops while you're under there. Should be roughly equal clearance with the weight of the car on the suspension, but ill-considered changes (or sagging springs) may have changed that.

Only thing I know is that one PO bought a front spring from TRF in 1986. Invoice says "stock grade". Price - $32.50.Why only one? Who knows. I have a rear tube shock conversion but it was tight even before that. I believe the other 3 springs are original to the car, as are the front lever shocks. How can I tell if the springs are shot? Is there a test?

Only ways I've ever seen a coil spring fail are by sagging, or breaking. Either way, your ride height would be low.

I agree with "TR3Driver"..most likely PO has fitted competition springs.
I do not believe springs can die.
What does your ride height look like.
