TR2/3/3A The rear axle "tube" seal replacement.

I need to replace this seal. Diff oil leakage not grease. I understand that by undoing the the 6 bolts at the back I can withdraw the hub and the shaft together. How do I determine if I should install a speedy sleeve or just replace the seal? Who sells the specific speedy sleeve I would need? Any additional advice before I tackle this. Thanks in advance.

Take a look at the sealing surface once you get it apart. Chances are good that it will be fine, since there shouldn't be any dirt in there.

If you do need a sleeve, you'll probably have to look it up by size and see where you can find it. I've got a NAPA store that can order any of them; but the other NAPA can only get some (by a different maker), so obviously it varies.

Sorry, I don't recall the size offhand. But you're going to have to get it apart to see if you need one, and it's easy enough to measure when you do.

but probably worth checking the float when done.
I consider it a requirement. But don't forget, both sides have to be assembled before you can check it.

I just did all this, and made my own tool to pull those seals out. But, I don't recall seeing anything there raising an issue of a speedy sleeve. Where would that go? I have one for the adapter at the differential pinion, but not on the axle shafts.

Maybe I don't understand the question? The lip of the seal rides on the shaft and can wear the surface. A worn or damaged surface may not seal even with a new lip.

Here's one from the scrap pile, that would definitely need a sleeve to be usable. (The photo doesn't show it well, but the area to the right of the rust pits is extremely rough, almost like a fingernail file.)
