TR6 Mirror placement

Can someone recommend where to place the mirrors on a TR6? I plan on putting in driver side and passenger side mirrors. I specifically need to know how many inches back from the front of the door the bases should be mounted. Thanks, Kevin

That can be a tough call and matter of taste Kevin, I don’t believe there is a single factory spot for the door mirrors. If you mount the mirror towards the leading edge you can access the attachments from the backside of the door- just open the door and you will see the spot. On my 6 the mirrors are more rearward, about 5-6” from the leading edge and they work well for me.

You didn't say what kind of mirrors you are fitting. Operating on the assumption that it is the "bullet" type mirrors that were supplied under the accessory "HAC" part number series and shown in his avatar, TR4nut has pegged about as good of a position as possible for the mirrors. This is especially applicable to the one on the right hand (passenger's) side. Any more forward than that winds up putting the windscreen frame in the way and any more rearward starts limiting the utility of that mirror. You can play around with the positioning by using some really good, but releasable tape to hold the mirror in place and then seeing how that placement works from your driving position. Start with the passenger's side and once a position is determined, go to the drivers side at the same relative position and confirm that it works for you from a symmetry standpoint. If not try small, incremental movements until you are happy with both the placement and view from the mirror.

Kevin,
On my TR4, ( which is virtually identical to a TR6 as far as the windshield and doors and I use TR6 seats) I have used the following. I have the mirrors that have a convertible short of long base.
Driver's side-- the front of the small base is located 2-1/2" behind the front of the door.
Passenger side-- the front of the small base is 5-1/8" behind the front of the door.
One would speculate that having the two mirrors at different positions would be very noticeable. No body has ever remarked about it to me.
Further when positioning the mirrors I had to NOT position the mirrors parallel with the ground. If I were to do that I could not use the passenger mirror at all. Tybalt's idea of using tape to position the mirrors is a very good one. A second person to adjust the mirror while you sit in the driver's seat is almost a must. Otherwise your position keeps changing every time you get into and out of the car.

Thanks for the suggestions. Forgot to mention that I am installing the bullet mirrors. I am going to start about where it was suggested and use the tape to play around with it until I have the best visability. I was looking at pics of TR6 cars on line, and on the driver side it looks like older ads show it no more than an inch or two back from the front. Thanks again,
Kevin
