I figure this belongs in general as I'm sure that all the TR's have the same aluminum oil gallery plugs.
On the TR6 block there are 2 aluminum oil gallery plugs one on the front of the engine:
And one above the oil filter:
Do these need to be removed before taking the block to be machined?
If I do need to remove them what is a reasonable substitute for the one in the front? Can a steel one be used?
