ID my First Car from 1968

Hey All...... my first car was purchased while in college in southern Ohio at Ohio University >>> a 1961 AH 3000 MKI!! Bought it for only $200 [yikes!!! yes...] with 38,000 miles on it already! But like most Lucas-equipped cars & MCs, it didn't make it from Athens to Cleveland in a snowy drive in February!! Sat in dad's garage until spring [wouldn't start!]... put some new Pirelli Redlines on & painted it that summer..... sold it that fall for $600! Found the Sales Tax doc with a partial VIN/ID number of "12203". Trying to determine if it is a BN7 or BT7 car [I've owned too many vehicles since & can not remember if it was a 2+2 or not..... ]! Would like to know if it is still on the road & where. Thx for the assistance......

I like that side racing stripe. Don't believe I've ever seen one like that on a Healey before. Looks like maybe the inspiration for it was a 914? (Or was the stripe put there before the 914 came out in about 1970?)

Anyway, the Austin-Healey Club of America registrar for BN7/BT7 is Bob Haskell at rchaskell:atearthlink.net

Try Bob. He's probably your best chance to locate the car.

The car in the photos is a BT7 (2+2).

Love the vintage pictures. They are so evocative of a time. Good luck tracking down your car!

These were known as "GT" stripes from the Ford GT40 upon which they first appeared. They first appeared on a production car on the Mustang GT in 1965. They ended up on just about every performance Ford, including Sunbeam Tigers. And of course, they soon were sold by JC Whitney so we could put them on any car we wanted to have "the look".

My '68 Galaxie 500 XL fastback had them too.

Congrats also on the "high water" pants and the mismatched tires with whitewalls on the rear only - all very, very "period-correct"!

In my case, "period correct" really meant "broke"!

My original TR4 came with a whitewall on one rear wheel. It was also a slightly different sized tire than the other three. I drove it like that until I left for college.

Unfortunately, I can't replicate my period correct haircut that would properly go with a car's vintage look. Jim

Reid, the combination of the high waters and the Weejuns is especially classic. Love it.

I had similar stripes on my 1974 Super Beetle Sunbug. So kewl!

The pic with the highwaters looks like it was taken in front of the Frat House.

I bought a ‘61 Triumph TR3 from a used car dealer. It was parked against a wall. The side I could see had 2 nice aluminum wheels. When I got home, the other side had standard wheels and hubcaps. I decided to put the aluminum wheels on the rear.

Thx, thought it might have been the 2+2 model...... and the GT STRIPES were from JC Whitney (50yrs later I think I still have some of that roll & letters!!!), inspired from the GT40 (I also have SAE tech papers that FOMOCO Racing sent me on the car just raced 24HRS LEMANS the year I bought the 3000!!!.... engineers keep everythig!)..... the fender mirror was on the car when purchased, as was the mix of sidewall colors!!!! Pic was parent's front lawn, Pontiacs in background my 3 younger bros date cars! And at least I had hair back then ....... sorry, no brit cars currently (now own Porches 77 slant nose/99/2014 Cayman, a 1929 700hp model A and a 2004 K1 Attack roadster from Slovakia is my open-top fix). Enjoying all the "comments."
