MGB Trim molding removal

Here I am, back again. The over whelming advice was to paint first before mechanics so I started prep work on the B. Today's question concerns the side chrome trim molding and the retaining clips. When I got the car, all the molding had been removed except the door molding. I removed that yesterday. I now have a string of the retaining clips along side the car. Do I leave them on when the car goes to the paint show, or should I drill out the rivets holding them on the car and have the car completely striped down the sides? Are the clips available if I do remove them?

Clips are available; they take extra care in installing, as it's very easy to scratch new paint. Use plenty of masking tape surrounding the holes, and when you pop rivet them in, be sure to pull the rivet gun back toward you as you "pull the trigger". A bit nerve-wracking until you've done a few (hundred!)...

You need to remove. They are a body mans nightmare....perfect area for runs and terrible to sand around. Fit new ones with a pneumatic rivet gun....problem solved.

I've got to mend the lower part of our MG's right front, below the chrome, forward of the door but behind the wheel arch. Will remove the door, chrome strip and drill out the buttons to make the job easier.

BTW, about choked when I went to the PPG guys to spectrally match the OEW... a PINT of color, the reducer and activator: $70!!! *COUGH*COUGH*

I experienced the same sticker shock when I last painted. That prompted me to go to a close match "fleet color" from TCP Global. (If you want a perfectly matched color, they will custom blend for an additional charge). The TCP paint was reasonably priced but shipping it across the country was a bit expensive. I found the TCP urethane to be very similar to the PPG with regard to how it sprayed.
