MGB Results of renewing front suspension

Though it's been a while since it was done, I've begun to drive the MGB more frequently. The front suspension got new lower A-arms, replaced all bushings with polyurethane ones, new kingpins and bushings, added an MGB-GT sway bar and replaced the steering rack with a "good used" one. Got the sway bar and rack from Tony B. a few years ago.

The improvement is impressive. Body roll has been reduced dramatically. A set of Kumho tires were fitted recently and can't (or haven't yet) had them break loose.

Will next send a set of dampers to Peter for renewal.

The Weber 40 DCOE was a concern, the chokes I first put in were 34's, they turned out to be too big: On 'spirited' application of the loud pedal it would bog down, indicating too much air/not enough fuel. All I had lyin' about was a set of 30's so this AM they got put in. All smoothed out now, but it lost a bit of "oomph" at the higher rev range (Crane cam, too) where with the 34's it came alive at around 3600. I'll dig out a pair of 32's and swap those into it just to see if there's an "in between" in performance.

Amazing what a fresh suspension can do, isn't it?

I've realized that I've never driven a LBC with rebuilt suspension, certainly never owned one. I've never seemed to get to that point. My MGB is tired though not horrible, and the Morris drives like a teeny tiny Buick...

So the next project is a complete rework on the Morris suspension, as it runs well but rides like a wee bitty parade float. Then once the MGB engine is redone I'll tackle that one.

you will sort the Weber....I would give it a rebuild then go from there, if it has been sitting?

Sat too long. Just got the gasket "kit" and new float needle n' seat, along with 32MM venturi chokes, on Thursday. Had to ring up Pierce Manifold for 'em. Hunted thru all my Weber parts and spares with no joy. Amazed me I didn't have a set here. And all my "rebuild kits" have sat around so long they've been shrunken to the point they no longer fit correctly.

This car never had one before, either. The W.A.G. I took was that the GT bar, being the bigger of the two, along with the new bushes and bits would nail it down pretty well.

It worked beyond expectation!

Guess I will need to fit one some day?
