That's a neat Christmas star - did you build that yourself or was it off the shelf?

I designed it and had a welder friend assemble most of it (out of aluminum). I wired it all (which took the most time). I also designed the control circuit (for the 3 zones so-as to make it pulsate), and then I found a guy that makes the very same thing for cheaper than I could assemble all the parts!
I had originally hoped it could be seen from very far away... but it's just not that bright (maybe 1 mile). I then thought I'd switch to much brighter lamps (like car head-lights), but all that would be too heavy and the amperage needed would make wiring (and switching) difficult.
Still, it works. I can also vary the speed of the pulsation as well as reverse it.

Technically, I'm not supposed to fly and night... and it's very difficult to fly in the dark. This was a very limited flight.
Without any light, the forward and downward sensors don't work, and when one shoots video the beacon light turn off so the darn thing disappears!!! Very unnerving.
