Post in float bowl came loose

The post used to secure the cap to the float bowl pulled loose from the bottom of the front float chamber. It did not damage the bowl (no holes). My question is this, can I use JB Weld to “glue” the post back into the bottom of the bowl. I have read on JB Weld’s site that once cured JB weld is impervious to gasoline. But I sure don’t want any JB Weld getting into the carb. Hate to buy a new float bowl If I can avoid it, but I also don’t want to cause any damage.

What do you think?

Thank you!

Lin--

If you're anything like me you'll be thinking about that repair every minute you're driving! I am a big fan of JB Weld but I'd spring for a replacement.

Thanks to Keoke, Mike and Steve for responses. I am not going the JB Weld route this time. I will find a good used one or buy a new one.

Wise man Lin,

I am all for resolving problems with other materials when a failure will not result in damage to me or the car - such as using PTFE tape to tighten up the adjustable steering nut onto the splines and using a 22mm copper olive on the steering wheel hub to stop the play. However, gluing in a post on carbs, which if a fail was to occur on a run, would mean a long walk home or an expensive trailering back home, would not be recommended.

Bob
