I also am a new member with a new (old) 1972 FX4 with diesel. I'm located in South Western Ohio. I'm a long time MG collector but this if my first taxi.
I will have lots of questions, many that will be a little dumb but will ask anyway.
First question, I would like to get the heater working, seems to be by passed, not a big deal. From the parts book it looks like the tap comes off the back of the cylinder head. This thing never gets warm or hot, the gauge just get nowhere near normal. Acts like there is no or stuck open thermostat. Question, is there a replacement that I can pickup here from a local parts store? I would like to have it in hand when I open up the housing. It just looks like from the outside it might be a little smaller than any of my MGs.
I would like to get this thing to go a little faster, like over 40 or 45mph. I would be nice to get at least 50 to 55, as it is now I can't take it out of town. Will the diff pumpkin exchange with any other British car or is there a better gear set to improve the highway speed? These things must have been able to go outside the city! But if I ever need to pull some stumps out there is always 1st gear.
Otherwise the little cab runs and drives good. The brakes are not the greatest, don't know it it's just mine or all are just so so. Still trying to get used to what seems like 20 turns of the steering wheel from lock to lock. It's going to be a lot of fun around town.
