My engine knock turned out to be a gearbox knock. It went away when I put my foot on the clutch. Gearbox destroyed three gears when third mainshaft shot a tooth into the two seconds.

Might be just about anything, some things easily fixed. Perhaps read previous thread "valve knock question" and others and then try to narrow possibilities. One starting point might be to use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope (or a stethoscope) to pinpoint the noise location.

I feel for you.
Some years back one of the needle bearings of my transmission let go which then ate the counter shaft and then proceeded to spread shrapnel all over the inside of the gearbox and OD.
Not a fun day out on the road....

That noise sounds like the timing chain is rattling maybe the tensioner is broken?
It also could be the gearbox input shaft bearing, see if the noise goes way if you press the clutch pedal,

Stratty, A long shot, but one it took me for ever to find. The distributor was installed by the owner and he didn't use any shims on the pedestal, the gears on the cam were kind of jammed in there and started to knock with some wear.
