    "BN3" Evo at Healey Week

I thought I'd highlight the BN3 Evo that was at Healey Week in Monterey... for those who didn't want to go thru all my photos that I posted earlier.

This car was a big highlight for me. I was wonderfully confused and a bit awe-struck when I saw it.

It's disingenuous calling that a Healey engine. It's a DMD.

It's described as a "Healey Factory" DMD. That's accurate.

The top of the show card is what I was referring to. I hadn't seen the bottom part.

IMO the car should have been in the Modified class, not the BN6 - BN7 class - as it doesn't have a Healey engine.

Yeah, I didn't get why it wasn't in the modified class either. It's like he didn't want to hang with with the riffraff.

I can say that as a member of said riffraff.

Aren't our (stock) engines, technically, 'Austin?' Yes, I'm anal-retentive (but everyone knows that).

    Mine's easy... it's a small block Chevy 400
I like to think the donor car was an Impala or Chevelle maybe even a wagon!

Far from stock, I guess that's why I dug the Evo so much.

I understand the car won Best in Show out of 170 (from memory) Healeys - though he placed 3rd in the BN6/7 class.

PS - the owner said the organizers put it in that class.

I think the painful reality is that it was a Morris designed unit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMC_C-Series_engine

I've got nothing against the modifications, but the placards seem a little__okay, a lot__over the top. Definitely in the TMI category for me.

A the Monterey Healey Week awards banquet it was interesting to see both an original 100M Le Mans and the BN3 EVO together side-by-side. When staging, the 100M had all the character and charm of an Austin Healey, the BN3 Evo was alluring, but lacked IMHO lack character...it just didn't have the visceral appeal - sound and smell. I liked it though, again very alluring and likely $$$$. GONZO

Wow ... did not know that. Too bad the Big Healeys didn't get the 'mark 2' engine.

Bob, do you know what the "M" at the end of the engine number on your 100M stands for?

I did, at one time, but seem to have dropped that bit. I do know it's not related to '100M,' I think it's something to do with where it was manufactured--Abingdon, maybe--and all the 100 engines would have it.

The engines were assembled by Morris, hence the "M"

Ah, makes sense. So, the 100 engines were designed and built by Austin, but assembled by Morris, and the 6-cyl engines were designed by Morris, but built and assembled by Austin?
