General Tech Straight line air sander

Are there any tricks to extending the life of the sand paper on a straight line air sander. I have the type that clamps the paper to the sander and it seems to break the end of the paper near the clamp easily. Too much pressure on the sander by the operator?
Should have got the peal and stick setup.

That does tend to be a problem. Clamping the paper as tightly as possible (end to end) helps. I've also used the peal and stick paper with mine too, and it does last longer. I got so it would last a good 10 minutes of sanding or so...unless I allowed the end to bang against a metal edge. That would always cut the paper at the end.

Hope you stayed dry during Harvey's flooding.

I have been making use of the shortened strips by stapling them to long wooden boards.

May try some peal and stick strips. Also thought double sided tape may work.

I have found that by cutting about 1/8" to 3/16" off the end of the strip I can get it tighter. The ends would not go completely under the clamps.
