Wedge Rad fan wiring

I am replacing the two original radiator fans on my A/C TR8 with a single larger fan. The original driver's side fan is wired between the the hot purple and the two yellow grounds. When replacing that driver's side fan with the new fan connected between the same wires and disconnecting the passenger's side fan, the single fan receives no voltage. (The manifold temp switch has been disconnected by the PO and both original fans had been working off the rad temp switch). What am I missing?

I can't say that I understand the fan circuits, other than knowing they switch from being in series to parallel to control low and high speed. So having one disconnected might be messing up that. If you are better at reading circuit diagrams than I am, this page may help:

For what it’s worth, the right side fan on my TR8 would often stop working due to its fuse (lower right-most). For whatever reasons, it suffered from bad contact between the fuse box contacts and the fuse. Simply rotating the fuse would usually make the fan work again. No matter how well I cleaned these contacts the problem would persist. It would also become very hot to the touch. Had I kept the car, I would have eventually rewired it to bypass that fuse and install an inline fuse in its place. I would guess that your problem may stem from that fuse.

I should also point out that this circuit goes to a fan relay and not directly to the fan whereas the left fan circuit goes from its fuse directly to the fan and then on to its relay(s).
