I am in the process of swapping out the exhaust system in my TR3. We got the old one out with much swearing and cussing, par for the course. Since the manifold flange nuts were hard to access I ended up just cutting off the pipe and pulling the manifold assy. Got the nuts off the studs but the flange won't budge! Any special tricks? I don't want to ruin the exhaust manifold. I searched the forum but didn't find anything relevant.

If all else fails, get one if those cheap angle grinders from Horrible Freight and an abrasive cutoff blade to fit. Cut into the flange from the bottom, between each stud. Don't go all the way through to the surface of the manifold, leave a thin layer.
Then use a cold chisel and BFH in the slots to break the flange. It should come out easily.
If necessary, you can cut through the studs too. They are consumables anyway, I almost always replace them just because the threads erode from the heat.

Mechanic's friend...PB Blaster! And tap it every so often with a hammer.

You're actually very lucky. I have yet to remove the nuts without breaking off at least one stud.

Thanks all! After messing with this, I really don't trust myself going the full destructo route, so I am going to take it up to my machine shop. They have done some "specials" like this for me in the past. Hopefully exhaust goes in next week when the weather breaks.

Done! Machine shop got it in about an hour. He also dressed up the surfaces. Now to get the new exhaust mounted up...
