TR2/3/3A Wire Wheel Locating Collar 108942

Unbelievably, this collar is holding up my restoration...still!!

To recap, over 4 years ago I discovered the early Lockheed TR2 axle did not just need a special hub for wire wheels, but also needed these collars to go on under the wire wheels. I searched for months, and finally got 4 very nasty looking used ones from Revington TR. They (Revington) said there were no more available to swap out for. I attempted to repair the shoddy old collars.

The car is now running and driving, but after a couple miles one wheel started knocking every revolution of the wheel. I spent all afternoon figuring it out. It was...You guessed it, the worst of the nasty old Revington locating collars. The collar depends on a smooth tapered portion for the wheel to compress the collar onto the hub. This one collar has a huge gouge worn on the taper, so the wheel never compresses it, and the wheel is not held on center. Every half turn of the wheel it goes "clack" as the collar moves back and forth on the hub.

Now I have a completed car that can't be driven because of a bad locating collar. Bummer!

I am posting just in case anyone has come across at least one collar in the last 3 years. I'd appreciate any leads you guys have. Thanks!

Oh, here is the last time I was looking...3 years ago!

Thanks Tush! I found myself drewelling looking at what a brand new collar looks like. I emailed him. I'll let you know when he gets back to me. I hate to get my hopes up after years of searching.

Well, I've ordered 2 used from Revington...with a stern comment on the order not to send me any more worn out junk.

Then, John in your add, Tush, responded and makes them new. His price is $70au, with a .77:1 exchange rate, making it a decent price. I'm negotiation with John, but the 12 hour time difference may take a while?! Either way, the car is grounded until the international post gets at least one good one to me. It can't be good on the splines having the wheel clack back and forth.

If you would like an original item I have one spare left, and it's yours free if you want it.

Dan

Dan...I must have been responding to Tush at the same time you were responding. I missed your post until this morning! PM sent.

Marv, you sold me this one without the collars. This issue goes back that far!

A follow-up. Revington responded that they have no used collars. I have ordered a full set of 4 from John Johnson shown in Tush's post above...in Australia. The time difference is killing me with the negotiation. I'll let everyone know how it goes...

If the Australian guy does come thru let me know. Don't think either of us knew about the collars back when you bought that set from me. You educated me on what they were. I may can sell you these cheaper.

Australia John does have 3 more. He had his machinist weld his hubs and have the splines re-cut, and also make new collars. The machinist had a 16 minimum, so John is selling off the extras.
