Hi everyone,

just making my first steps on this community ... and looking for some good advice as I am planning to purchase my first Austin Healey classic.
Anyone who has some advice for me with respect to a "Austin Healey 100-Six (BN6)" ?

What do I need to look for, what are the weaknesses ? Any experts from Belgium who could possible assist on site ?

Thanks,
Gert

Gert,

Pages and pages could be written, and have been, about how to buy an Austin Healey. The following is a very brief summary.

- mechanically and electrically the cars are very simple and all parts are available at reasonable prices so no great concerns there.
- the outer body panels just hang on the car and can look perfectly Ok with a nice paint job. It does not mean the car is OK.
- BY far the most important issue is the condition of the chassis and the front and rear substructures. These give the car its strength. You must get the car on a lift to examine the chassis as well as looking under carpets and under the dashboard and in the boot areas to look for rust and/or botched repairs.
- the above points apply to all Austin Healeys not just to the 100-Six. All the models are very similar to each other.
- The 100-Six is the least valuable model, but the BN6 is the two seat variant which is more desirable (IMHO). You should be paying less for a 100-Six than you would for a comparable 3000.
- I recommend contacting the Belgian Austin Healey Clubs. I believe there are now two of them. They will be a great help.
