I am curious as to why these components are sized in millimeters. Is there anything else on the car that is sized that way?

The liners likely because standard was trying to break into the European competition circuits, like Lemans, and engine sizes are classified in liters in European racing.

I think it is just caprice. The engine in my Dodge is 345 cid and they call it 5.7 liter. To John's point, I dimly recall some long ago Ford engine that we denominated in ci was a "5 liter Ford" in racing.

British Motorcycles were designated in cc, Matchless 500 Norton 650 but cars seem to get the liter designation.

It seems to me that most modern cars, foreign and domestic, now have engine size specs in liters. Must be a plot.
