TR3A Seat Bottom Rebuild [Pics needed]

Does anyone have any step-by-step pictures on rebuilding the bottom seat portion using the Moss seat kit? Plenty of pictures of the back rebuild and completed shots but none on the reassembly/covering of the spring bottoms. I know it's not an overly complicated setup and that I'm making complicated then need be but I'd like to make sure I get it right before I cut anything. Reverse assembly sounds logical but the seats were redone at one time by using only a foam pad placed over the springs, then covered by the seat covering. Thanks in advance for any pics.

Hello Paul

The information is or was out there because I remember reading through it a while back. Unfortunately I neglected to save it and am not able to find it again.

My seats covers appear to be held to the springs with Hog Rings. I am not at home at the moment so I cant add a photo.

Shall be watching this thread hoping that someone will come up with the info.

I'll document mine within the month. Trying to get an estimate from Jonathon Skinner on my interior delivery. In the mean time, these pics may help...

Note that the burlap is stitched to the spring frame to hold it in place...otherwise it will slip over time. Do not use hog rings here, as they will eventually wear through the cover.

The burlap goes completely around the springs, to protect the cover from the wires, that will wear through if left exposed to the covering. It gets hog-ringed to the underside of the frame. The horse hair goes a few inches over the edge of the springs, and also gets stitched in place. The foam in the picture is NOT original. In place of the foam, cotton batting goes over the horse hair. It will stick fine, so does not have to be stitched.

The cover gets positioned on the top, and folded over the sides.

Ensure the factory edging is centered in the back.

This is a poor job...but you get the idea. The sides get stretched slightly over the bottom edges of the frame, and then hog ringed to the inside. You should have some selvage, but not this much.

Hope this gets you started....like I said, a couple weeks I'll be diving in.

Nice presentation John. That is the way mine were done, though I had an upholstery guy do mine.
Kits came from TRF.

Good luck, Paul

I took the big step and went for it. For some unknown reason I was not able to attach two pictures showing the final result. I used the Moss Seat padding kit and covers. Thanks for all the help offered.

Just ordered my seats, carpet and weather equipment from John Skinner. So I am keeping an eye on this thread.

Thanks for the photos. Upholstery will be another skill I will have to master on my TR journey.
