TR2/3/3A Overdrive Wire Routing

Since I can't work on the car this week, I have been studying pictures. I am confused as to where the overdrive wiring passes from the relay under the battery tray to the transmission. When I got the car it passed through the transmission oil fill access hole on the left forward side of the tunnel. Is this correct?

going from the relay, straight down and along the driver side of the tunnel, there is a 1" hole in the tunnel on the driver side about half way back, it goes through there.

So the hole that is forward of the shifter, and about 4 inches above the floor? There is another hole at the rear of the tunnel and only 1 inch above the floor, but I figure that is not the one you mean...?

Edit:

This one?

Wow you got a lot of holes to work with! The circled hole is the correct one. Remove the plug and install a wire grommet. I asked this same question last summer. Don't know if this correct but ran the wire along the hump in the tunnel and out the edge of the carpet.

Thanks guys!

I see the OD wiring harness is nla for the TR2. I'm looking into getting the cloth covered wires to home build it. Just curious...has anyone else made their own?

check your OD, are you using the original OD with just 3/4 OD no 2nd? if thats the case, just cut off the extra connector for the second isolator switch.

Do you know if the later repo harnesses are using cloth covered wire? I know they're using spade connectors, which could be snipped off. I'd like to stay with cloth wires if possible.

I use a different route - even if not original:
Forward to the firewall, through a grommet there alongside the main cable
Then down to the front of the gearbox, alongside on the top cover
I fix it with a P-clip on the front screw on the gearbox cover.

This way it is possible to mount/ remove the tunnel cover independent of the overdrive wiring.

FWIW - this is for a TR4A (from Revingtons site):

I did something similar on my LHD TR4 and added access plates on both sides of the tunnel to service the solenoid (drivers side) and adjust the solenoid and service the angle drive (passenger side). I also added a hole & grommet plug to be able to fill the gearbox from inside the footwell (no top fill on a TR4).

That diagram shows connectors, so you can split the 2 wires going to the tranny when removing the tunnel. Was the TR2/3 the same...i.e. quick connectors?

John,
My TR3 has the bullet quick connectors. I drilled another hole on the front top of the tunnel next to the shuttle (or battery) drain to keep from having another hole on the side of the tunnel. Where ever you go through the tunnel, make sure you have enough wire that you don't pull the connectors apart putting the tunnel in (ask me why I would say that?).
Good luck,
