I have a Pioneer 1280 that needs a little work,
& was wondering who does quality repairs on them.Since
it weighs about 65 lbs, shipping IS a concern.

I have my old Marantz 2265
afew years ago I pulled it out and was quickly reminded why it's not used any more
you touch any control pot or switch and it pops so hard it would make you deaf
I then remembered how much it was going to cost to replace caps, pots some lamps etc.
to much twice what a new one was
but it's pretty to look at and pretend I'm playing YES thru my old klipsch horns at 6 AM to wake all the people across the lake
ah the good old days.

Up until a couple years ago we had a really good vintage radio repair shop here in Albuquerque but alas, they are no more.

Those old Pioneers are really sweet. You can't easily buy something of that quality anymore unless you want to spend some serious chunks of change. Everything now is surround sound and digital, the old school rock solid 2 channel units are becoming collectors items. Hard to beat the turntable preamps in those things...that alone makes it worth holding onto if you still play vinyl. If you were in central Texas I'd have a couple decent suggestions but VA is a long way away. I'd look in the Fairfax/NorthernVA/DC area. There used to be a place in Richmond when I lived there decades ago but I don't recall the name and I doubt it even still exists. Get it fixxed, play it loud!!!

Haven't tried them yet,as I've been working.
I started getting interested in getting it going again.
I still need to unpack the speakers.
I'm considering selling it,as it's worth a lot of
money, but want to think it over first.
It's just such an incredible receiver (& it weighs 65 lbs!),
but I also have a SX424 as a backup,that I bought new.
