I'm writing about the rusting of my 1960 Sprite Mk.I seat pans; and, possible remedies. I have read a lot about seat pans rusting.
Does anyone know why the seat pans are so prone to rusting? Is there something wrong with the way they're made? Are there ways to prevent the rusting?
Is it practical to reinforce the rusted areas of a seat pan with new sheet metal? If parts of the seat pan are heavily rusted, it seems like spot welding in new sheet metal might not be an option.
Has anyone successfully used a heavy duty adhesive to attach new sheet metal onto a rusted seat pan?
How well do the after-market seat pans fit? How available are good used Mk.II seat pans? Some folks have sounded disappointed with the after-market seat pans.
Thanks.
