TR4/4A Seats - left/right

All,

I have stripped down the seats on my TR4A - a very dusty exercise! Which seat is left and right?

Searching suggests the seat should "lean" a little towards the center of the car. On mine the seats were installed such that they "lean" outboard, as in the photo below: the seats are oriented as I found them in the car. Is this backward? The seats have been recovered, i.e. someone took new covers and placed over the old. As such, they may have been removed and re-installed at that time.

They lean in. PO must have installed backwards.

The seats in that photo are on the wrong sides - should be swapped.

People often swap the seats left to right--the driver seat wears out, as it gets more use, so switching them is a cheap fix. You'll find this in many kinds of cars, not just TRs.

I like your photo; no hammer too big, no job too small.

Back in the late sixties I remember swapping to seats to even the wear on my 65 TR4A but quickly reversed when I saw that the seat rubbed on the top frame supports. The seats lean in for a reason!

Hammers can never be too small!

(That hammer is acting as a weight to keep the chairs from tipping backwards. It was nearby and convenient for this purpose; it is innocent and had nothing to do with the disassembly!)
