TR6 Starter issues

Hi all! I went to drive my '71 TR6 last night and when I turned the key, there was a single "click" but no starter action. Ignition lights stayed bright. No dimming. The battery is only about a month old, but I don't think this has to do with the battery as there was no dimming of lights and when I tried connecting to another car with jumper cables, the result was identical. I tried banging on the starter with a hammer. I tried rocking the car in gear. I read in the Haynes manual about a switch on the starter relay (inertia type) but I don't find any relay. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for sharing your collective wisdom (and Happy Thanksgiving to all on this side of the Pond)!

Have you checked for grounding issues?

Agree. Also check starter relay, I think that might be what you're looking for rather than the solenoid. I don't have a 6 but I think it's on the top part of the inner left fender.

Going from memory, I don't think he has a starter relay... I think the starter relay came out in '74

Unless some one switched it, you would not have an "inertia" starter. Those had a remote solenoid and were discontinued in the TR6 in 1969...But it is possible a switch from 'pre-engaged' to 'inertia' was made as I did on my 74.
Normally you would have a 'pre-engaged' starter with the solenoid mounted on top of the starter motor.
That's about all I can contribute aside from check the wiring as has been described.
