TR6 74 Door on a 69 car

Found a couple of nice 1974 doors cheap for $50 each and I need one for the passenger side. Any concern fitting a 74 door on a 69? Mine is rusted and was backed into and needs a new skin. Also the window channels are shot and hoping the new door in in much better shape.

They should be exactly the same. The only differences I know of are the inside, door pull, and top capping areas. I think all else is the same.

I think I remember the door pull handle locations are a little different for the door panel. Remove 74 chrome and plastic door pull and cover with door panel. To match you will need to install door capping from 69. Otherwise ready to use.

Thanks! I was worried that the top of the door is different because there is no capping and the 69 door top would not fit.

If the 69 door panel is like my 71, it's a poor design, relying on glue or whatever to hold the top of the panel in. Every time you close the door by pulling on the flange at the top of the panel it loosens and pulls away from the door skin. My solution was to drill a couple of small holes in the top of the door and insert a couple of chrome flat head screws and trim washers. End of problem. I think the later cars are different.

You may want to utilize the later '74 design pull. As stated above, it is a better way. Unless you are showing the car and the originality is a concern that is.

I plan to keep it "in the period". However my Tr250 has the same door pulls and never a problem with them separating form the door frame. Maybe the type of glue you used or the surface was dirty and prevented it from fully sticking. But I remember that the later style the door cards would brake down from repeated pulling to close the door and if the wife is mad getting in and slamming the door your are likely to be replacing that door card.

The cards break down from moisture, primarily. The pulls screw to the metal door. They rarely break. The moisture shields in the door either don't help or are missing, and water gets on the cards, degrading them.
