I want to convert my 59 bugeye to an alternator. I've read many posts about this as well as checked out Moss' kit. The posts are somewhat dated though so I'm asking are there any new recommendations of alternators to use? Looks like the one of choice for me is the Bosch 13107 (Ford Fiesta). Has anyone found one that's even easier to fit or is cheap to find at the junkyards? Also is there a downside to buying a Remy or other brand version instead of Bosch?

All work basically the same but I'm partial to the newer skeleton framed small alternator's. I think that Frank C liked the one off of a B2000 Mazda pickup. I'm running one off of a Ford Festiva on my Datsun engined car. If they are the internal regulated alternator you only have to deal with 2 wires. One to batt and one to indicator light. Just a matter of figuring out which one you need.

I used the alternator out of a later model Midget- it has been working great ever since and is easy to bolt in

I bought a new alternator on ebay--The distributor is "Discount Starter Alternator" look for "14037N" MG alternator-
It lists the item for MG, MGB--but it's the same alternator for Midget, Triumph, etc. Price is $76.87 free shipping--the good
thing is that the pulley is already mounted--then a few bucks for a 3 prong plug, a fan belt, and a adjustable link for the bottom
bracket, and all for around $100--

I have a Delco 10SI on the GT6, a Motorola copy of a Bosch on the Mini, and a later Lucas unit on the Spitfire. The Delco unit is big as is the Motorola. I have a Fiesta alternator in the attic waiting as a spare for whichever car needs a replacement in the future. So far I have had the most problems from the Lucas.

You have already read up on the process at this point but I will still post a link below to an article on Mini Mania. In addition to the usual content about wiring and mechanical changes, this article discusses how to modify an old generator control box to act as a wiring junction. The advantage of this is you won't be cutting up your wiring harness to carry out the conversion and a later owner can easily go back to the generator if desired.

I have the Delco in the Bugeye. Not the easiest to mount but cheep any where. After building a mount it only takes about 10 min. to replace.

I want to go with the Bosch 13107. I see it available for about 100 bucks. There are other brand 13107 like remy or names I never heard of for cheaper? Does the brand name matter or are all these rebuilt alternators the same. They look the same in the pictures except some don't nclude the ppulley and fan.

Chances are that thy are all Bosch and the "other" names are for whoever rebuilt them. However, I cannot guarantee that is the case.

When I went shopping for a Bosch alternator, it was hard finding one that was supplied with the fan or pulley.

The link below may not work but it is the result of using the search feature on the Remy web site for a rebuilt alternator for the '78 Ford Fiesta.

They list the 13107 as a Bosch 55 Amp alternator. So, that Remy 13107 you found is most likely a rebuilt Bosch unit. It will not be the 10SI and 12SI Delco alternators that are very common as Bill W. said. The 10SI is what I have on the GT6.
