    Re: Distributor question

Vette, the 100 uses a different arrangement than the 6-cylinder cars. The shaft extension is connected to the distributor with a roll pin, in place of the offset drive dog used on the 6-cylinder...

Re: Austin Healey 100 engine color

There should be several numbers stamped into the pan rail at bellhousing end. What are they?

    Re: radiator spigot fix

Just a heads up, but the threads on the petcock/spigot are British Standard Pipe. To be specific, they are 1/4''-19 BSPP. Anyone looking for a drain plug, in stainless, they are available from...

    Re: BN1 Ignition question.

You seem to be implying that NO BN1 has a timing mark on pulley or timing cover. Is this a known fact or just an assumption ? If it is a known fact, at what engine number were they added? I can...

    Re: BN1 Ignition question.

While you are at it, with engine at TDC #1, Check for a small hole in the back half of crank pulley lined up with the arrow embossed on the timing cover.

    Re: bt7 head surprise

It looks like one of the wires that support/strengthen the cores when the block/head were cast. Not uncommon.

    Re: extra stop/brake light

Dave, you may want to check your state's vehicle code. I believe states typically do not allow the center high mounted light to have any function other than a brake light. Flashing lights of any kind...

    Re: extra stop/brake light

The answer is fairly simple. The wire you refer to in the trunk is not a "stop light" wire. It is a dual purpose wire that operates the stop and turn light and there is one for each side of the car....

    Re: Torque Setting needed

OK, pulled the valve and spring out of my spare block. I have no doubt they are original based on the wear on the valve and the fact that this engine hadn't been run since at least the mid-70's. I...

    Re: Torque Setting needed

Michael, that is interesting information. In looking at the BCS website, they show a different spring to suit the "replacement" valve as compared to the OE and OE replacement. I suspect that the new...

Re: 100 Main Bearing Caps--removal in situ

    Michael,

As you can see from the pics, the stock 100 definitely has through bolts into the rear main cap. However, on the DWR site, you can find a pic of steel main caps that do not include...

Re: 100 Main Bearing Caps--removal in situ

At the front, you also have two bolts going through engine plate and into the front main cap. Once removed, the cap will come off. One potential problem (and it applies to the rear cap as well) is...

Re: 100 Main Bearing Caps--removal in situ

The rear main is not coming out without pulling the trans, flywheel and rear engine plate. The two bolts shown go into the main cap. You can see the hole with the end of the bolt visible behind the...

Re: 100 Main Bearing Caps--removal in situ

Michael, the front main cap should come out with the removal of the 2 lower timing cover bolts plus the 2 main stud nuts. There are no bolts INSIDE the cover.
The rear main may be more problematic....

Re: Oil release valve plunger stuck

The ID of an original plunger is .500". If you can't get it to budge with the dowel method, a 1/4" NPT tap will just start to engage and grip the end of the plunger.

Re: BJ-7 Center Shift Gear Lever and bush

Simply remove the snap ring, washer and spring, then lift out the shifter. Don't have to remove the pin you see. It is used to keep the shifter from rotating by way of a slot in the pivot ball....

Re: Strange debris found in sump

Been there, seen that. It is indeed the tensioner ring from cam gear.
I find myself wondering if the replacements currently available are made of an appropriate rubber compound.
