• Welcome to the New and Improved British Car Forum

Attachment 24552Welcome to the new British Car Forum. This page is the British Car Forum Articles page and is what is called a "Content Management System" (CMS). This area can always be accessed by clicking on the "Articles" Tab in the main navigation bar. This is a place where I, and in certain sections, you as members, can post articles (with images) and even videos. Here's a quick guide of the different areas of this page.

    1. Section Navigation. This section allows you to go to different sections. The "plus icon" means that this section has sub-sections. Clicking on the "plus icon" will display the sub-sections.
    2. Category Navigation. Every story or article posted here can be assigned one or more categories. This section will display all categories available on the BCF CMS sections. The number next to the name displays the number of articles in that category.
    3. Admin-Defined Navbar Section Links. The admin is able to define which sections can display in the top navbar.
    4. Articles. The content here is displayed in the various ways, defined by the admin. Each CMS page can have it's own layout. For example, a "2x1" layout would mean 2 articles are displayed in the first row and all remaining content is displayed in a single column. In other sections you will see alternate content layouts like 1 column, 2 column, 3 column, 1x2 (first article spans 2 columns and all remaining articles displayed in 2 columns). It will change from time to time depending on the nature of the content.
    5. Create New Article Button. If a user has permissions, the "Create New Article" button will display. For more information please look at the "Create New Article" article.
    6. Recent Article Comments. This area will display the latest article comments.
    7. Recent Blog Posts. This area displays the newest blog entries.
    8. Recent Forum Posts. This area displays the most recent forum posts.
NOTE: The different "widgets" are areas that display things like Recent Articles, etc., can be changed by the admin, so the picture may not match exactly at any given time.

I just want to say what a fine job you have done with this Forum.
It works well, handles photos quickly. and is generally good to use.

Well moderated too it seems or just friendly guys.

Been posting on the UK Register forum but you have to be v.careful or you get flamed on there.

Basil, I'm having a lot of trouble with the new format. It's probably my computer but it's very slow. I am able to view the opening page very readily, after that it's almost impossible to navigate. Just scrolling down the pages takes over 5 seconds per click. Even typing this comment requires a pause after 3 or 4 letters. When finally reaching a forum it takes over a minute to download from " http.www.Superfish.com". My computer is an older model but I've never had a problem before. I'll try another website to check whether it's my computer or??

Maybe it is too early in the day. Maybe I am a moron. But I can't find out how to display or read the threads in the AH forum.

Anyone want to take the time to hold me by the hand and lead me through this newness?

I really like this forum but I would like to make some suggestions.

First, like Jack, the stuff displayed on the main page is not what I am looking for and I suspect I am not alone. The articles are useful and I suspect that you feature them to encourage folks to write them. However, I generally visit the forum relevant to my specific car. In order to feature the articles, perhaps a small section for "Newest Articles".

To find a particular forum I must go to "forum" on the top horizontal menu and then scroll down past classifieds to find my specific forum. It would be nice if there was a little picture of each of the cars in a grid at the top and you could click on the Sprite, the TR3, or the XKE. A little number indicating the number of posts since I last visited would be fantastic.

When I visit a forum, the registries and classifieds are at the top. While I understand no one would find them if they were at the bottom, skipping a use-it-once item like the registry every time to get to the changing information (forum topics) is inefficient. Perhaps just a single Registries and Classifieds link?

Once I get to the forum, I would like to see a summary of each of the topics sorted by most recent posting and an indication of the new posts since I last visited.

      Hopefully constructive feedback.
      Thanks!
